Kirkcudbright History Society starts its new season with ‘Tales of The Big Hoose’: the history of four local houses (Argrennan and Fludha in Kirkcudbright; Barwhinnock at Twynholm and Senwick House at Borgue). These have been researched by members as part of the ‘Can You Dig It’ project which looked at over 40 houses across the region. The evening will be introduced by Claire Williamson who oversaw the project. The meeting is on Wednesday 11th October at 7.30pm in Kirkcudbright Parish Church Hall.
Talks for the rest of the season cover a wide range of local subjects. These include: the early life of John McKie, a Twynholm lad who travelled the world as a fleet engineer before retiring to Kirkcudbright and whose journal gives a fascinating insight into local life in the mid 1800’s; ‘The Galloway Levellers- a Tercentenary Review’, and ‘Remembering the Railway’.
The full programme and membership forms can be obtained from the secretary at khsoffice44@gmail.com.
Membership (£12) can be paid at the first meeting and visitors (in-person and online) are welcome at a cost of £3 per meeting.
The Society will continue to stream all meetings on Zoom. Members and visitors wishing to attend online, should register with the web secretary prior to the meeting at secretary@kirkcudbrighthistorysociety.org.uk. and will be sent the necessary link.
