Join artist Morag Paterson, Forester Andy Macqueen and Wildlife Recorder Malcolm Haddow on a walk through Kilsture Forest investigating soil from different perspectives and interests.
An inspiration for artwork, a hidden world of mini-beasts and mycorrhizae, a major consideration in woodland management, a vital piece in the carbon sequestration and climate change story – soil is fascinating whichever way you look at it.
What to expect: An informal, informative discussion as the specialists share their knowledge about and interest in soil. The walk will take us off the main trails of Kilsture Forest to take a close look at what lies underground
If you have a magnifying glass or loupe, please bring it along! Walk length: approx. 2 miles in total.
This event is a partnership between the event leaders, Kilsture Forest Community Group (KFCG) and Machars and Cree Valley Climate Action Network (MAC-CAN) who are co-funding the event as part of their soil programme. KFCG is a voluntary group set up to promote the well-being and sustainability of the biodiversity on the site. The 204-acre Kilsture forest is now managed in partnership between Forestry & Land Scotland and KFCG.
