Join Elizabeth Tindal, Freelance Ranger, for a walk into the merse (Saltmarsh). This is a unique habitat for many different animals including geese, insects and birds, fish and creatures who live in the mud. It helps humans too by purifying the water and is a brilliant nature-based solution to protect Annan from flooding.
Elizabeth will reveal the science within the saltmash, why is such an important habitat, why we need to look after it and help it to expand inland for people, nature and wildlife. Of course, scientists don’t have all the answers but they do all agree that merse, Saltmarsh is a very special environment and the Solway has more saltmarsh that any other part of Scotland.
Walks leave from the Annan harbour ImMerse basecamp at 11.15am, and 1.15pm. The session is around 1.5hrs but you can drop in and out.
Please come dressed for the weather and terrain which will be undulating with mud underfoot in places.
