5Rhythms with Rachel Kurtz
5Rhythms is a conscious dance practice developed by Gabrielle Roth to help liberate your inner dancer. There are no steps to learn and no right or wrong ways to move. The music can be eclectic, drawing on multiple genres and cultures to support a group process.
It can be many things at the same time – a fun workout, chat-free social time, or a deep spiritual practice. On any level it can be profoundly transformative, helping shift your mood, energy and perspective.
Often described as a moving meditation, 5Rhythms supports you to pause your thinking mind and connect with how you feel then allow your body to do the rest.
The rhythms are: flowing, staccato, chaos, lyrical, and stillness.
We will be led by Rachel Kurtz who is traveling all the way from Durham to offer us this class.
A lifelong dancer and mother of two, Rachel trained with Gabrielle Roth in 2000 – 2001 and remained apprenticed to her until she died in 2012. She is also co-founder of the Bare Toed Dance Company – specialists in creative movement play and aerial dance. She is currently completing an ESRC funded PhD in embodied learning at Durham University.
Rachel holds space with care and attention to invite a sense of safety and permission. She is also inspired by the Open Floor curriculum which she has been studying since 2019.
INSTRUCTIONS
Please wear loose comfortable layers so you can regulate your temperature. Bare feet or soft dance shoes are recommended. Bring a water bottle with you.
Beeswing Memorial Hall does not appear on Google maps but is very easy to find. It is on the main road in Beeswing – you will see it on the right hand side if approaching from Dumfries.
Please note that parking is limited at the hall so please car share where possible and be aware that cars may have to block each other in. If there is not a space at the hall you will find parking elsewhere in the village – either by the main road or on one of the right turns in the village (right if approaching from Dumfries side). We will have someone outside the hall helping with parking on the day.
We will have an altar set up in the hall so if you would like to bring something to add to it you are welcome to.
£15 (early bird) +booking fees / £17+booking fees
