A smolts tale: Dams and Tides

Tiny, fragile but super ambitious, a salmon smolts drive to leave our rivers and explore the oceans is hardwired, but very very dangerous.

The Atlantic Salmon smolt is a fragile tiny fish that has the challenge of making an epic journey from the rivers of Scotland to the high artic. This morsel of life barely 12cm long has to negotiate barriers and evade predators on a journey of several thousands of miles. Jamie Ribbens from The Galloway Fisheries Trust and experts from Glasgow University have been tracking this journey and can now shed some light on the challenges.

This event is online and will discuss the travels through the River Dee and then onwards to the North Atlantic and describe cutting edge technology that is unlocking some of the salmon’s secrets. Book your place now and you will receive the log in details an hour or two before the event starts.
