The Dumfries Astronomy Society present an evening with Dame Jocelyn Bell, the discoverer of pulsars. These rotating neutron stars emit electro-magnetic radiation from their magnetic poles, and this can be detected by scientists on Earth. Dame Jocelyn will tell the story of pulsars, how she identified them as stars rather than signals from aliens, how the discovery was awarded the Nobel Prize in Physics and the knowledge gained of pulsars in the decades since the discovery.
This event is open to all and is free admission. Should you wish to show appreciation, donations can be made on the night to the Dumfries Astronomy Society for staging the event and bringing Dame Jocelyn Bell, a pioneer, expert and engaging speaker to Dumfries.
Places are limited, so please book your space using the event website link.
