Book Week Scotland Event with local author Karl Drinkwater and Before Sunrise (15) FREE

November 19 @ 7:00 pm - 9:30 pm

Free

We’re pleased to host local author Karl Drinkwater for this year’s Book Week Scotland event.

This evening’s event will relate to Karl’s writing on friendship as this is covered in many of his stories, not just the sci-fi ones. Karl: “the best romances are ones where the leads are also obviously great friends, in tune with each other, challenging each other, pushing each other.”

Karl chose ‘Before Sunrise’ for screening alongside his talk. It’s the first film in Richard Linklater’s Before Trilogy about a couple Jesse and Céline (the other two films being Before Sunset [2004] and Before Midnight [2014]). In Before Sunrise Jesse (Ethan Hawke) and Céline (Julie Delpy) meet on a Euro rail train and disembark in Vienna to spend the night together. Karl’s choice of Before Sunrise is because relationships are about discovering other people, and as humans that is most often done through words and discussion, and stories like Before Sunrise – whilst also catching nuances of body language – predominantly use dialogue as the tool to both reveal character and move the plot forward. In short, the perfect film for to use in conjunction with Karl’s presentation about friendship.

Tickets for the event are free with funding provided by Book Week Scotland.
