The event has passed.

Everyone knows the castle but what stories are hidden in Caerlaverock Castle Wood?

Dr Coralie Mills and the Dendrochronicle team (www.dendrochronicle.co.uk) have been studying Caerlaverock Castle Wood for HES. What can the ancient trees and their relationship with archaeological features tell us about changing land use through the centuries? How has the dynamic coastal location affected the history of this wooded cultural landscape?

Join this guided walk, led by Coralie, discussing the findings of the research, highlighting what we know and still don’t about this site. Coralie will start with some old maps to show the group at the start, giving an overview and helping to understand what is quite a complex wood. She will lead us to some of the spectacular ancient trees in the environs of Caerlaverock Castle and show how they relate to the archaeology, history and location of this fascinating site.

As we start the event, attendees will be able to enjoy a sample of refreshments sourced from The Boathouse in Glencaple.
