Colvend Bat Walk

Join Species on the Edge for a nocturnal walk to discover the brilliant bats in Dalbeattie Forest. An exciting opportunity to learn more about your local bats. Equipped with bat detectors we will embark on a multi-sensory exploration of Dalbeattie forest after sunset to see which bat species are flying. We will be making special effort to see Daubenton’s bats – aka ‘the water bat’ – which fly over the water to catch insects. You will learn how to use a heterodyne detector and how to recognise species based on their fascinating echolocation calls. This event will require walking for a few kilometres along tracks after sunset. Please dress appropriately, wear sturdy footwear, and bring a torch for navigating after dark.
