Cruck Cottage is the only remaining example of a basic dwelling that was once a common site in 18th and 19th century Dumfriesshire – at that time there were 60 just in the village of Torthorwald! The cottage has been carefully restored, maintained and suitably furnished, and provides an insight into the living conditions of a past age.
Join us and discover unusual rural and social history objects from the past, take part in our mystery object competition and enjoy the live music and craft demonstrations – all in the smokey atmosphere of a traditional peat fire.
Staff will be available over the weekend to give visitors an insight into the history and construction of the cottage.
