Oman, lying at the southeastern end of the Arabian Peninsula, is not all sand dunes and camels. It has a variety of habitats, and a diverse bird population. In particular, the northern part has a predominantly middle eastern avifauna, while the southern part has different species, largely influenced by its proximity to Africa. In addition, huge numbers of European migrants pass through on migration. Yet despite this diversity, it is often overlooked as a birding destination. This talk will be based on a visit made by the speaker to the country in 2018, amplified by information from other sources, so it will not simply be a travelogue, but hopefully a portrait of this little-known country.
