The Dumfries Women’s Signwriting Squad are back in March with a special event featuring visiting artists Rachel E Millar and Hana Lindsay of Sure Signs!
Rachel and Hana will be leading this one-off session which will be tailored towards beginners, exploring basic brush strokes and letter construction over a couple of hours. We’ll keep the tea and coffee flowing as usual, and welcome regular attendees to the DWSS Meet Up’s or newbies who would like to take their first steps into the world of lettering!
We are asking for a contribution of £5 per participant to support the costs of running a facilitated session, and as the workshop will be limited to 8 places we ask that you please book in advance, and let us know if your plans change so we can offer the space to others.
The Dumfries Women’s Signwriting Squad hosts a monthly meet up at the Stove Cafe, a welcoming space for women (and those identifying as) with a love of all things lettering to meet, share skills, projects, and techniques. Whether you have never picked up a brush before or are a seasoned veteran of the art, join us for a coffee, a chat and to share skills and ideas.
About Guest Artists, Rachel E Millar and Hana Lindsay:
Rachel E Millar and Hana Lindsay of ‘Sure Signs’ are signwriters, gilders and lettering artists who are two thirds of signwriting collective ‘Bungo Sign Co.’ in Glasgow’s south side. Rachel studied graphic design in Edinburgh and Boston, then worked with Glöbel Signs before becoming an independent signwriter in 2017. Since then she has painted artwork for small to large companies commercially across Scotland and has produced many of her own bold typographic artwork for exhibitions across the UK and the US. Hana of ‘Sure Signs’ was introduced to signwriting through spending a month working with Mike Meyer in the USA and has worked on large scale mural work and signs part time since 2016. She decided to take the leap into full time signwriting in 2022 and has worked alongside Rachel on many projects since then. Both painters use traditional skills with contemporary techniques and vibrant colour palettes to create bold and accessible designs.
