The theme of this exhibition is ‘Edgelands’, the places that transition between one kind of terrain and another; headlands, reedbeds at the water’s edge, hedgerows that divide field from garden, ancient dykes that mark where meadow becomes moorland, woodland paths, sea and estuary shores.
‘Edgelands provide endless inspiration to me as an artist and writer, and are often habitats rich in wildlife. They are places of endless fascination to me. I grew up by the sea and am continually drawn back to it, as to the wilder places where wild flowers grow and the best blackberries can be found along dykes where lizards and butterflies warm themselves in the sunshine. Here, too, birds and small mammals live and forage for food. The shores are constantly shifting, places to linger and experience the light and the wind, the rushing tide and the wind-blown thorn -trees that lean inland. I search for driftwood amongst the detritus cast up on the Spring tides. ‘Edgelands’ is offered as a response to years of wandering, watching and living on the edge of things.’
Join the artists for coffee on 1st March between 11am and 1pm .
