New exhibition opening April 1st 2023 within Sanquhar Tolbooth Museum (on until 30th Sep 2023)
In 1812, the first of around seventy French, Polish, Italian and German officers arrived in Sanquhar. They were Prisoners of War, captured during the lengthy conflict that has become known as The Napoleonic Wars (1803-1815).
For the first time, a model ship made of bone by a Prisoner of War in Sanquhar will be on display within the Tolbooth Museum. Explore more of this fascinating history through paintings, displays and film.
