Freedom Machines – Poetry Cycles in Dumfries Museum

September 2 @ 3:00 pm - 4:00 pm

Join eight of the best poets from across the Region as they read from their pamphlet “Freedom Machines”.

Inspired by the adventure, skill, speed and daring of cycling and the transformative effects of self-propulsion, these writers came together to produce a collection of writing which encompass, mystery, history, landscape, childhood, archaeology and racing.

Saturday September 2nd is the final day of the ‘My First Bicycle’ photographic display within Dumfries Museum. We asked the people of Dumfries and Galloway to contribute photos of themselves with their first bicycles. They are on display near an example of The First Bicycle alongside other historic bicycles such as a Boneshaker and a Penny Farthing.

“On the road outside our house
beyond the towering elms,
I walked to school the first two years, before
the bicycle, new-to-me,
and then………..”
Extract from Roads Through A life by Larry Winger
