Leaving events: 2 July to 10 July 2022
To commemorate the end of the Galloway Hoards time at Kirkcudbright Galleries – the Vikings of Dumfries and Galloway have come to say goodbye!
Join them for a week of activities in and around Kirkcudbright Galleries in preparation for handing over the Galloway Hoard to its next custodians – Aberdeen Museum and Art Gallery.
Saturday 2nd of July
Head to Soaperie Gardens – just across the road from the Galleries – to meet Hrefna and Cathbad as they teach you about different Viking-age crafts and tell you stories of the Viking-age!
Monday 4th to Thursday 7th of July
Visit the Galleries to make your own Viking costumes to wear as part of the Galloway Hoard Honour Guard.
Saturday 9th of July
Visit the Viking encampment on the Soaperie Gardens and train to be part of the Galloway Hoard Honour Guard, in the evening you can join the Vikings as they ceremoniously say goodbye to the Galloway Hoard!
Sunday 10th of July
Come and say one last good-bye to the Galloway Hoard – leave knowing that it will always be safe thanks to the Galloway Hoard Honour Guard and the Guardians of the Hoard!
For all of this week Kirkcudbright Galleries opening hours will be 10am to 5pm, with last entry to the Galloway Hoard at 4:15pm
