An opportunity to walk one of the most scenic sections of the old Dumfries to Port Patrick rail line aka The Port Road with a knowledgeable guide. Loosely featured in John Buchans “The Thirty Nine Steps” the walk retraces Richard Hannays route from Gatehouse Station under the mass of Cairnsmore of Fleet through forest and open moorland to the old halt at Loch Skerrow and then on to Mossdale (New Galloway) Station.
The walk is 10 miles over easy terrain (mainly surfaced path/old track bed and forest road) but because of remoteness must be completed in its entirety.
Numbers will be limited to 15 people. Minibus will be provided to allow the one-way walk.
Please bring a packed lunch, waterproofs and boots and sun protection
