The Glencairn Midsummer Gathering: A Celebration of Nature is a nature gathering organised by The Friends of the John Corrie Wildlife Garden. It has been developed to foster community spirit, educate the community about the local environment and encourage them to become an actor in the protection of the environment. The Friends of the John Corrie Wildlife Garden will work to sustain the benefits of the weekend across the community for the long term.
The festival will offer land and nature-based activities in Moniaive and Wallaceton including nature walks led by local experts, bushcraft activities for children, and land skills activities for adults as well as storytelling sessions and talks on a variety of topics, from badgers to dragonflies and James Paterson. Members of the community will be invited to participate in workshops looking at the habitats of the local area and their connection to it, a collaboration between the GSA Biosphere and the Moniaive Initiative. Tea and cake will be served in the bowling club house, where guest speakers will present their work. Local organisations will also have the opportunity to set up promotional stands.
