Impressions of MERZ
2023 is the seventy fifth anniversary of artist Kurt Schwitters’ death. In celebration of his immensely creative life (and inspiration for MERZ in Sanquhar) IMPRESSIONS OF MERZ features a cabaret plus films and a play, taking take place at A’ the Airts in Sanquhar at 7:00pm on Saturday 27th May as part of SANQUHAR ARTS FESTIVAL (26-28 May).
Booking is free but essential while a few artist residency buildings – themselves inspired by Schwitters’ reuse and recycling – are available at ‘reasonable rates’ for those wishing to stay over and enjoy the many features of the Sanquhar Arts Festival.
IMPRESSIONS OF MERZ features an interpretation of the 1916 Cabaret Voltaire Dada performance in Zurich by Airts Youth Theatre; the short film ‘Kurt Schwitters has left the building’ on Schwitters legacy together with the award winning animation ‘Untitled (2022)’, on Schwitters final months’ in Cumbria.
The evening will conclude with Florian Kaplick’s brilliant interpretation of Kurt Schwittters’ poem Anna Blume.
