Our intention is to offer a safe space where parents and their babies and toddlers can gather for an event that will include a film and/or dance show alongside the opportunity to take part in sharing and discussion. Welcoming the groups into a relaxing atmosphere is very important. Composers will help us create a warm and relaxing soundscape that fits the mood of our workshop. This will call upon the themes of nature which are present in our performance – sounds of birds, water and ohm sounds.
We would like to finish the afternoon with a short workshop that includes elements of South Asian dance that both parents and toddlers can do together. In this we will teach different elements of South Asian dance vocabulary, for example Mudras and storytelling, as well as simple Bharatanatyam rhythms and clapping/tapping. Providing a workshop like this will allow audience members to connect with each other and our performance on a deeper level. It will also provide mothers with inspiration for new ways to interact and play with their babies. We will be leading these workshops in colourful beautiful South Asian traditional saris.
