In October 2023, artist Jay Rubinstein installed a hanging wooden mobile in Dumfries Museum. This skein of geese was put into the museum’s Main Hall as part of the Wild Goose Festival.
Saturday December 2nd, will be the last day to see this art installation and we are pleased to welcome Jay, who will speak about his art in this free talk.
Jay Rubinstein makes wooden mobiles mostly inspired by images in poetry, stories or songs. His work ranges from large installation pieces (like the Goose Flock currently on view in the museum) to much smaller items suitable for domestic settings. Each mobile demands exploration and experiment as well as developing craft skills and each is unique.
Jay will talk about some of the sources of inspiration and the way in which his work has changed since he began to specialise in mobiles. His talk will explore some of the discoveries he’s made and the practical techniques he’s developed along the way.
FREE TO ATTEND, NO NEED TO BOOK.
