Mrs Burns’ Kitchen

Experience the original kitchen of Robert Burns’ home brought to life in this atmospheric and hands-on event.

The kitchen was the heart of the home, not just a place for cooking and eating, but a place where gossip was shared, and poems and songs thought out. Discover favourite foods of the poet and the things he didn’t like. Smell a range of herbs used in cleaning the home, and spices used to flavour foods and hot toddies. Try your hand at butter making or preparing oatcakes. Explore the original cooking equipment which belonged to the family, including Jean Armour’s cookbook with some intriguing recipes.
