Audiences in the Stewartry are in for a treat as SongWave Community Choir brings their latest concert series, Singing up a Storm: Songs of Spirit and the Sea, to the region.
Led by musical director Kate Howard, SongWave is a Castle Douglas-based community choir which is known for its joyous renditions of a varied repertoire of songs which in this concert will range from Dalmatian love songs, sung on the shores of the Adriatic coast to the Unst Boat song, Scotland’s oldest known song depicting the coming storm from Shetland. From the joy of the Swimming Song to Sankey and Moody’s nod to our heroes and heroines of the sea, the RNLI, who we celebrate in their 200th year.
“We’re thrilled to bring Singing up a Storm to the Stewartry,” said the choir’s chairperson Jo Gallant. “The choir has been working hard to prepare for these concerts, and we’re excited to share our passion for music with the local community”.
The choir’s three concerts will take place at Dalbeattie Parish Church Hall on Friday 21st June at 7pm, Gatehouse of Fleet Parish Church on Saturday 22nd June at 4pm, and New Galloway Town Hall on Sunday 23rd June at 4pm.
