Chris Rollie on honey buzzard distribution and breeding in Dumfries and Galloway.
UK Honey buzzards have been shrouded in mystery and secrecy for decades. Once thought to be much rarer than they are, they have been known to breed in D&G since at least 1983. Given more recent exposure in papers in Scottish Birds and elsewhere, and the recent national survey (2020/21), this talk aims to cover the bird’s features and habits and to sensitively communicate its known history in the region, with a brief look at recent national survey results.
