Dumfries can boast a number of ground-breaking women and their work helped shape the town.
If you saw Storytrails at the Ewart Library or if you missed it, come along to learn more about the legacy project and the work being done by Dumfries Museum. We’ll talk about Jessie McKie, Flora Murray, Devorgilla, and an incomer to the town, Kay Mander, the filmmaker who broke convention and brought a keen eye to all her projects.
Lastly, we will be screening a gem from the BFI Archive, in honour of Dr Murray, a committed fighter for women’s suffrage: ‘Make Some Noise’ a collection of films about suffragettes, their campaigns, and their critics. (UK 1899-1917 | black & white | c.80 mins | Comedy | Documentary)
