The urban wildland in Stranraer, known as Stanctuary needs a little help. Join us and learn how to plant a few native trees, a great feeling and opportunity to spend a few ours in nature. We will provide the trees and give you the skills to plant them.
We are restoring the wetlands and woodlands of the Black Park in the project known as Stanctuary in Stranraer. We need a little help though. Thanks to the support of DG Woodlands and SEPA’s Water Environment Fund, with D&G Council, we have around three hundred locally sourced native trees to plant with community volunteers and local schools.
By helping nature to thrive, we hope to improve the site for recreation and for outdoor nature based learning. The trees will have a cooling effect in summer and provide a biodiversity boost for the area. An oak tree is home to over 2500 species of insects birds and animals so imagine all the life this woodland will support in the future.
If you can help please bring your spade, a lump hammer. Wear some warm dry clothes, stout boots and bring a packed lunch. The terrain is uneven in places and a little wet.
Stanctuary will become part of the Solway Coast and Marine Project, within an initiative called ‘Coastal Burns’.
