Talk: An erudite romp—Dickens and ‘Great Expectations’

Event Date
January 14 @ 11:00 am

The event has passed.

Dickens famously changed the ending of ‘Great Expectations’ at least three times: there’s a happy ending, a downbeat ending and a thoroughly ambiguous one. Could he just not make up his mind? Or are the different endings (and it turns out there were rather more than just three) telling us something about the place of the novel in C19th literature?

You absolutely don’t have to have read the book to enjoy this engaging talk as Professor John Drew explores the humour, themes and endings of this late great novel.

Join us for pre-talk coffees & teas at 10:30, in time for the lecture at 11:00am.

This is an in-person and virtual event. Guest, Visitor and Zoom tickets (£10) can be booked on our website: https://tasdag.org.uk/Lectures/FutureLectures.aspx
Log-in details for Zoom attendance (requires Zoom to be installed) will be sent out after booking the day before the talk.
