In 2023, Dumfries Museum will be celebrating ‘The First Bicycle’ designed by Kirkpatrick MacMillan.
On display will be versions of the first bicycle alongside other historic bikes such as the Penny Farthing. Public contributions will also be sought to create an art installation of photographs of people with their first bicycles. The bicycle symbolises so much – freedom, exploration, sport and invention – the museum will be celebrating its rich history in Dumfries and Galloway this year.
