The Galloway Garron or Nag was a famous breed of Galloway horse, now extinct, but with a unique international legacy. This remarkable breed, recorded by Defoe and Shakespeare, was held in the highest regard across the country and beyond but it appears to have vanished without trace.
Dr Miriam Bibby is an archaeologist, historian and journalist with a specialist interest in the history and archaeology of the horse and its relationship with humans. She has been researching Galloway’s unique breed of horse, what it was like, what happened to it, and its impact on the equine world.
