Next time you put on a cotton T shirt, think about those who grew the cotton and what they might have been paid. Find out more about the difference Fair Trade makes, so you can make more informed decisions about the goods that you buy.
Grown in over 100 countries cotton provides employment for millions of rural households. But as 90% of cotton farmers work on 2 hectares of land or less, many can barely support their families, often in countries with no free health care or education. Fairtrade schemes ensure that farmers are paid fairly and invest in their communities. Come along to Kirkcudbright Parish Hall on Wed 21 Sept at 7.30pm. Hear from Trevor Jones and his experiences volunteering with Traidcraft Exchange on a project with tribal hill farmers growing organic cotton in NE India. Entry by donation, light refreshments are provided and Fairtrade goods can be purchased.
