What Could a Galloway National Park Ever Do For Us?

Event Date
November 20 @ 7:00 pm

The event has passed.

This event is open to anyone interested in learning how an existing Scottish National Park operates and addresses (or not?) some of the issues currently being raised by our community about the proposed Galloway National Park.

The evening will welcome Cairngorms National Park Authority Chief Executive Officer, Grant Moir to talk about what National Parks do, how they operate and the experience over the last 20 years in the Cairngorms.

The format for the meeting will start with a 10 minute presentation. This will be followed by an ‘interview’ approach where local resident Ted Leeming (former Chair of the Galloway Glens Landscape Partnership, former MD of Natural Power Consultants Ltd, environmental photographer and local resident) will ask questions about the experience in the Cairngorms National Park that are relevant to the debate in Galloway at the moment. Questions will not be shared with the speaker before the event.

At the end of the evening questions from the floor will be invited if time allows but the specific purpose of the evening is to listen to how an existing National Park operates and is governed, the positives and negatives of having a National Park, and to find out how and if lessons learned from existing National Parks could be applied to avoid issues arising should the proposed Galloway National Park go ahead. It is not intended to be a debate of specific issues, for which there are already many excellent ongoing fora and within which the findings of this evening can be discussed.
The meeting is open to all and free to attend. Signing up on Eventbrite merely helps us to put out chairs on the day.

Please share lifts to and from the event if possible
