Take the opportunity before our reserve opens to go out with our site manager onto our Saltcot merse, in an area not generally open to the public and listen out for the serenade of skylarks.
Caerlaverock has a special connection to this species, as our name means castle of the lark. This time of year is ideal to hear the iconic long song of these birds as they ascend high in the sky as part of their display. Find out more about this declining species that has inspired many works of literature & music, and why our spectacular saltmarsh that they call home is such an important habitat.
